Tribute to Richard (Richie) Kimball
Richard "Richie" Kimball was a man whose life exemplified the power of transformation, resilience, and selfless leadership. From the depths of addiction to the heights of recovery, Richieās journey serves as an inspiring testament to the strength of the human spirit. As a hope-to-die heroin addict, he crossed the country in search of his next fix. Yet, it was in San Diego, California, that Richie found his turning point. After a fateful encounter at Planet Hollywood, he walked into his first Narcotics Anonymous meeting, marking the beginning of a 13-year journey of recovery.
Richie was more than just a survivor; he was a beacon for others seeking the same path. As a sponsor in Narcotics Anonymous, he not only shared his wisdom but led with compassion and humility, guiding others out of darkness and into the light. His commitment to his own recovery was unwavering, and his belief in the program was absolute. He became a living example of what it means to overcome adversity, showing that even in our most difficult moments, there is always a way forward.
Richieās intellect and drive were just as remarkable as his resilience. He was on sabbatical from his Ph.D. program in molecular biology at UC Davis when he left us, a testament to his dedication to both academic excellence and personal growth. His ability to balance the rigorous demands of his studies with his deep commitment to recovery speaks to his extraordinary characterāa man who sought to understand the world both scientifically and spiritually.
He was not only a mentor to many but also a loving husband to Robyn and a devoted father to his daughter, Cheyenne. His family was the center of his world, and his love for them knew no bounds. Richieās legacy is not just in the work he did or the lives he helped change, but in the family he built and the love he shared.
Richie was a pack leader, not in the traditional sense, but in the way he led by example. He guided those around him with wisdom, empathy, and an unshakeable commitment to his principles. Whether it was his commitment to recovery, his academic pursuits, or his family, Richie always led with heart. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the family he loved, and the lessons he imparted to us all.
Though he has crossed over, Richieās impact remains, a shining light for all who knew him. He was an extraordinary manāan example for humanity and a true pack leader, whose memory will continue to inspire, guide, and uplift for generations to come.
Rest in peace, Richie. You will never be forgotten.
